Using lasers to create green and eco-friendly labels for fruits and vegetables

As living standards improve, people have higher and higher requirements for food quality, and are more inclined to choose healthy, all-natural, and eco-friendly foods. This has led to a period of rapid growth for the organic food industry.

Application of laser marking in agricultural products

Laser marking technology is used to mark organic agricultural products. Using this technology increases the added value of marked products to a certain extent, enabling traceability information and commercial identification. Laser technology will make products packaging-free and label-free.

01、High processing capacity – reducing costs and increasing efficiency

Founded in 2006, LASERFOOD’s founders stated that laser technology can save costs and reduce the environmental impact of paper labels. Laser marking removes pigments from the surface of fruits and vegetables, leaving the label pattern intact; the product’s taste, flesh quality, and date marking remain unaffected.

Laser labeling also offers advantages in personalized design, food safety traceability, and product added value, with the system capable of processing tens of thousands of labels per hour.

02、Environmental significance

While seemingly insignificant, these small labels can generate enormous energy consumption when produced in large quantities. Globally, millions of food labels are used daily. Using laser marking on fruits and vegetables can significantly reduce the use of paper, ink, and adhesive, while also saving energy during label production and material transportation.

· Application

The application of laser marking eliminates the need for stickers and packaging. It is understood that for the same size label, laser marking produces less CO2 emissions than producing a single sticker (by less than 0.2%). This not only saves the company significant expenses but also has a very important and positive impact on environmental protection.

Using lasers does not produce new chemicals, nor does it cause food to rot or become contaminated. A low-power CO2 laser simply etches the desired pattern onto the outermost layer of food by removing the pigments from the food itself.

The Dutch use CO2 lasers to print labels on their fruits and vegetables before shipping them to stores. This natural labeling method is a contactless and environmentally friendly way of labeling.

Recommended equipment

1. Features and Functions: The CO2 series equipment utilizes a CO2 radio frequency laser and a high-speed scanning galvanometer system. It is equipped with high-quality optical components, a highly stable laser power supply, and a fully automatic control system. The entire system boasts high marking accuracy, high speed, and extremely stable performance, capable of continuous operation for extended periods and directly applicable to high-volume online processing production lines.

2. Applications: Suitable for marking non-metallic materials such as wood, greeting cards, leather, rubber, bamboo products, plexiglass, ceramic tiles, plastics, marble, jade, crystal, and fabrics.
